Essay or Writing competitions are important because they transform writing from a school requirement into a meaningful act of communication. They provide a platform, a purpose, and an audience, empowering students to refine their skills, find their voice, and connect their personal passions to the broader world. The benefits—confidence, resilience, critical thinking—are life skills that extend far beyond the page.
This September, our students demonstrated formidable intellectual courage by competing in the globally renowned Immerse Education Essay Competition. This prestigious contest attracts thousands of applicants from around the world, and our scholars distinguished themselves with exceptional critical thinking and scholarly rigor. Under the guidance of their teachers, our students engaged with complex, university-level questions. Ms. Deirdre Weary's Pre-BC Science class tackled the medical prompt, “How Emerging Infectious Diseases Pose a Threat to Global Health?” Meanwhile, Mr. David Derokey’s Entrepreneurship class deconstructed the business-critical question, “What role do incubators and accelerators play in the success of tech startups?”
The competition offers outstanding recognition. The highest achievers can earn the prestigious **Scholar’s Laureate** status, which includes a full or partial scholarship to an Immerse program, publication opportunities, and priority program choice. With around 60 students participating, our students have not only made a significant impact but also seen a tangible improvement in their academic performance. These competitions, by deepening subject knowledge and developing essential skills such as critical thinking, research, and academic writing, have proven to be an effective tool for academic enhancement. Additionally, they can strengthen university applications by providing excellent material for personal statements, recommendations, and interviews.
