Math can be challenging for some students, but making it fun and engaging through collaboration, gamification, and hands-on projects can significantly enhance the learning experience. This approach transforms math from a subject often perceived as a barrier into a foundational tool for understanding and shaping the world around us.
In our BC Foundations of Math class, we recently completed a unit on quadratic functions that featured an exciting activity. During this engaging exercise, students turned their math review into an adventure by solving a “ship escape” 4-digit code. They applied skills such as converting quadratic functions and finding the vertex. This activity aligns with BC’s core competencies by fostering critical and creative thinking and enhancing student communication.
Such activities serve as formative assessments that fundamentally transform the learning experience and unlock lasting value. We would like to thank Mr. Jeorge Espinosa for his creative approach to teaching and for inspiring our students in mathematics.
