Students have likely engaged with the scientific method numerous times throughout their educational journey. In our grade ten class, we've taken a fresh look at it, diving deeper into key vocabulary terms such as hypothesis, observation, independent variable, dependent variable, control group, experimental group, data, and conclusion. Now, the real excitement begins! Students are embarking on an adventure to design their own experiments, applying the scientific method while bringing these vocabulary terms to life. Armed with an assortment of plant-growing materials, they have chosen intriguing independent variables to test. Some of the fascinating questions they are exploring include: "Does music enhance plant growth?" "What happens with light versus darkness?" "Is rice water better than regular water?" and "Can coconut water outperform standard water?"
With their hypotheses in hand, students are currently collecting data, eagerly anticipating the moment when they can analyze their findings and draw compelling conclusions. If you cross paths with a grade ten student, don't hesitate to ask them about their thrilling experiments at the MIC! Their anticipation is palpable and is sure to make you feel excited and curious about their discoveries.
