Our English department is starting a World Scholar’s Cup club this term. We want to give students a friendly space to practice English and to explore big ideas. The World Scholar’s Cup is an international event with teams of three. Students debate, write, and answer quiz questions across many subjects. It is welcoming, creative, and fun. We believe this club will help our students grow in skill and in confidence.
How will we prepare? We will meet once a week after school. Each month will focus on a different area. We will practice Team Debate with simple motions and a clear structure. We will learn to build arguments, give reasons, and listen with respect. We will do Collaborative Writing workshops to plan, draft, and edit short essays. We will review content from the annual theme in science, history, art, and social studies. We will also train for the Scholar’s Challenge and the Scholar’s Bowl with friendly quizzes, buzzer practice, and teamwork games.
Why is this important? The club builds strong language skills: reading, speaking, listening, and writing. It develops critical thinking and problem-solving. Students learn teamwork, leadership, and time management. They gain confidence on stage and in class. They meet new friends and discover the wider world. These skills help in every subject, not only in English. All students are welcome, no matter their level. Come try a session and see. Sign-ups open this week in room number 5204 on the second floor of building five.
